To others who are not as familiar with this mitzvah, witnessing a bunch of people dressed in these phylacteries might seem a bit strange by itself. But the obscurity of the discussion around tefillin in Halacha doesn\u2019t stop there; I bet you didn\u2019t know that there are halachot that discuss wearing tefillin upside down! Let\u2019s take a look.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Aruch HaShulchan, Orach Chaim 27:17<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-black-color has-text-color\">&nbsp;\u201c\u05d0\u05dd \u05d4\u05d0\u05d9\u05d8\u05e8 \u05e6\u05e8\u05d9\u05da \u05dc\u05e9\u05d0\u05d5\u05dc \u05ea\u05e4\u05d9\u05dc\u05d9\u05df \u05de\u05d0\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05d0\u05d9\u05d8\u05e8 \u2013 \u05d9\u05d4\u05e4\u05d5\u05da \u05d4\u05de\u05e2\u05d1\u05e8\u05ea\u05d0 \u05dc\u05e6\u05d3 \u05d7\u05d5\u05e5, \u05d5\u05d1\u05d6\u05d4 \u05d9\u05d1\u05d5\u05d0 \u05dc\u05d5 \u05d4\u05e7\u05e9\u05e8 \u05dc\u05e6\u05d3 \u05d2\u05d5\u05e4\u05d5<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><em>\u201cIf a lefty needs to borrow Tefillin from someone who is not a lefty, he should flip the \u05de\u05e2\u05d1\u05e8\u05ea\u05d0 (the passageway that the leather straps run through) on the Tefillin shel yad (Tefillin placed on the arm) to face the outside, [contradicting the typical ruling that the knot should be facing inside]. But, if the \u05de\u05e2\u05d1\u05e8\u05ea\u05d0 has to be moved, it is not so bad.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">\u05d5\u05db\u05df \u05de\u05d9 \u05e9\u05d0\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05d0\u05d9\u05d8\u05e8 \u05e9\u05e9\u05d5\u05d0\u05dc \u05ea\u05e4\u05d9\u05dc\u05d9\u05df \u05de\u05d0\u05d9\u05d8\u05e8 \u05d9\u05e2\u05e9\u05d4 \u05db\u05da.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><em>The same goes for when a non-lefty has to borrow Tefillin from a lefty.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Even with Mr. Byron\u2019s gentle reminders echoing through the halls of AJA on Thursday afternoons, I\u2019m fairly sure that a few students have managed to \u201cFORGET THEIR TEFILLINNNNNN!\u201d in the Phylactery Learning Center (PLC). Although said students may have slightly thwarted Byron\u2019s vision of an empty PLC, if they are able to get their hands on a set of tefillin, no matter what hand they are supposed to be worn on, the student should be all set after learning these rules!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><em>Editor\u2019s Note: <\/em>Palette <em>is not advocating for students to leave their tefillin at school. Borrowing tefillin is never ideal, and certainly not when wrong-handness is involved.
